Hard To See 03:54
Whiskey still on my breath, I left without a trace. I told you I was leaving here, Told you I hated this damn place. You have questions, Oh, I know you had a few. But you didn't say a word, just watched me leave out in the noon. It gets dark here early, living on the road, with a back-alley suitcase and a pocket full of green gold. I figured I'd settle here, just for tonight. Maybe I'd sell me some to make it through the night. And it's hard to see, it's hard to see what you've been doing to me. Yeah, and nobody knows that it's true. They blame me, you know They blame me For all of those little things they see. And God, I know that it ain't true So why do I do? How am I gonna tell them, How am I gonna tell them the truth? I turned out to be the man that nobody ever knew. She told me when I left there, "Don't come back 'round here no more" She made it clear that She don't love me anymore. And it's hard to see, it's hard to see what you've been doing to me. Yeah, and nobody knows that it's true. They blame me, you know They blame me For all of those little things they see. And God, I know that it ain't true, So why do I do?

Everybody got a new last name Everybody play the same damn game Everybody's getting while the gettin's easy You know everybody knows That somethings gotta change Everybody you know they're down to re-arrange But nobody want an X on their back You know you got to slow, you better slow it down yeah you know you gotta calm it down, you know you got to calm it down. Everybody's waiting for the right change Everybody they wanna stare and glance But nobody wants to waste no time Everybody got a suit and tie Everybody thinks that they gotta lie Cause nobody's ever been told the truth You know you got to slow, you better slow it down yeah you know you gotta calm it down, you know you got to calm it down.

Levi Garrett's got a cold beer by his side His womans cooking supper and his old legs are growing tired They lived a hard life, You know they worked for every dime. They raised a daughter and a son who grew up, and ain't got no time Now back in the day, that old man, he could sure as hell play that guitar He was known as the best around he'd tear down all the bars. He met that woman at a hole in the wall in houston and since that day, his heart ain't never changed. Just a lover and his woman Living their life day by day by day Trying to find a way out, but things ain't going their way So as he walks on down the street He says, "Sugar, why don't you look at me? Cause I love you just that way." Well he's a little older now, but he still plays that guitar and that old lady, she don't like it much, but she knows just how hard it is for him to pick it up, and not put it down again. So once a month she lets him take it out and play it loud as hell like he did back then Just a lover and his woman Living their life day by day by day Trying to find a way out, but things ain't going their way So as he walks on down the street He says, "Sugar, why don't you look at me? Cause I love you just that way."

Can you hear that train a'coming? Can you hear that whistle sound? They got the money in the bags and it's all about to go down. And it's a fool-proof plan That I have devised It's gonna make a rich, rich man. But something I got to realize Is I only got: One more train to rob I got a few more men to kill I got alot of men to kill I got a lot of miles to ride, and I've done made that devilish deal So we rode into the night down to toward to train number 55 There was tension in the air for who died, I did not care The crows are nipping at my heels I got a price above my head I got an itch so bad for money, even the devil wants me dead but I told him: One more train to rob I got a few more men to kill I got alot of men to kill I got a lot of miles to ride, and I've done made that devilish deal I washed the blood off of my hands and the dust off of my eyes. I knew that what I had done was so wrong, But I'm thanking God that I'm still alive Cause I only got One more train to rob I got a few more men to kill I got alot of men to kill I got a lot of miles to ride, and I've done made that devilish deal.

Set Free 04:15
I found some hope in an old-time movie about guitars, and singers and such Found that I want to be something like them, Not sure I can stay up late that much. I see the birds on the telephone wire, I wonder if they have dreams like me. I see the people that look nothing like me, wonder if they're cut, do they still bleed? And I hope one day I'll be set free And I hope that Maybe one day, they'll be people like me I sit and listen to the people talking, I don't think that they know I hear every single word. Talking about their dreams and how one day They could fly as free as those birds And I hope one day I'll be set free And I hope that Maybe one day, they'll be people like me I don't have much money here to work with from what it looks like, neither do they. I've never been the type to ponder much, or even care about what people say. You know I hope that Maybe one day I'll be set free. You know I hope Maybe one day, they'll be people like me

The sun rises early in the morning and you know that I ain't slept a wink all night Your memory haunts me like a ghost above my bed and I know, I'm the furthest thing from your mind The wind through the willow trees, I swear I hear your voice. But I know, oh I know that it can't be. Oh my sweet gypsy woman Why don't you run back to me please? Oh my sweet gypsy woman Let your soul run back to me please. This day keeps draggin on and I can't keep my lunch But you know that's the usual for me. This room is filled with smoke, and this bottle has run dry. But I guess that's not enough to kill your memories goodbye. Oh my sweet gypsy woman Why don't you run back to me please? Oh my sweet gypsy woman Let your soul run back to me please.

Roses are red and her eyes are blue This booze is cheaper than a dinner for two. There's nothing like being lonely on a saturday night. And I caught second wind about 3am I tried to call you again and again I guess some things aren't meant to be And I'll run these roads Till these roads run me. Nobody knows how far I might go, this hurt I feel tells me all my problems are so real. And when I get the chance, you know I'll make it up. I always make it up. Cigarette papers and a cold motel room The smell of liquer and her perfume And I'm such a sight for sore eyes And this bathroom floor never seemed so familiar My situation is so peciluar and I know nobody got time for that And I'll run these roads Till these roads run me. Nobody knows how far I might go, this hurt I feel tells me all my problems are so real. And when I get the chance, you know I'll make it up. I always make it up. Woke up late, just like usual Sportin a frown and a pounding headache. I hope to God this coffee does the trick. I'm waking up, and I'm shaken up. I know one thing's for sure.

Well I guess I oughta make my way downtown Quit all the drugs and stop foolin' around Go back to church and start reading again Myabe God will forgive all my sins And I'll Start back over where it all began, The late drunken nights, all the whiskey and gin. A half-lit cigarette and the cocaine flame A woman who doesn't even know my name. A beat up old car, with wood panel sides. A two-pack habit, just trying to survive. A wife and two kids, that I left alone. Praying that one day, I'll just come home. And maybe one day I will finally grow up, maybe one day I'll quit messing up. Maybe I won't, Maybe I'll just let you down. And I'll go down to the pawnshop, and grab my old guitar, Head down to main street to play that old bar. Just play for tips, and not make a dime. Maybe I'll realize that I'm still alive, and then I'll go buy a coat, some candy and some smokes, walk down the street, and laugh at my own jokes. Maybe I'll busk on the corner for some cash, and God, I don't know how much longer I can last. And maybe one day I will finally grow up, maybe one day I'll quit messing up. Maybe I won't, Maybe I'll just let you down.

I caught a bullet Down in Midland For stealing cars from that damned old railroad I moved to Jackson With this blood trail With this bright red blood trail A'following me And I'm singing I met this woman Down in Tulsa Well, that woman treat me like a daggom king That woman swear to me She never gonna leave She don't I move to texas in the summer In the summer of '63 And you can bet your ass I ain't ever gonna leave
